DSD Master is a professional-grade tool for producing PCM versions of music files encoded in the DSD format. DSD Master also produces BitPerfect Hybrid-DSD files required for playing native DSD using BitPerfect and iTunes.
DSD Master produces the highest quality PCM transcodes on the market - better than those produced by professional studios. Requires OS X 10.7 or better. Requires 64-bit CPU. Produces AIFF, ALAC, WAV, and FLAC files. Produces BitPerfect Hybrid-DSD files. Supports all sample rates from 44.1kHz to 384kHz.
Supports DSD64, DSD128, DSD256, and DSD512 formats. Supports.DSF and.DFF (DSDIFF) file formats.
Andrew Jones, legendary speaker designer now with ELAC, explains to John Darko of Darko.Audio web magazine that Direct Stream Digital (DSD) master recording tracks usually transfer into another format such as Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) for mixing, mastering and other processing. Any suggestions on music software thats best suited for a mac is greatly. One that'll handle all music files up to the highest quality DSD codec.
Transfers all metadata, including artwork. Multi-channel supported by design, but not yet tested.
Selection of automatic Normalization options. Simple and convenient user interface. Conversions initiated directly from within Finder, or by dragging-and-dropping files onto the DSD Master Icon, or from the File menu. BitPerfect 2.0 or better (available on the App Store) required to play DSD content of Hybrid-DSD files.
Upgraded DSP engine provides:. Up to 2X increase in conversion speed (CPU dependent). Dramatically reduced memory requirements. Even more accurate conversions. 'True Analog' normalization to eliminate encoding of implied out-of-range inter-sample peaks. Intelligent queuing logic for managing large conversion workloads. Ability to launch conversions from the 'File Open' menu.
Fixed a bug that requires a PCM conversion to 'unlock' Hybrid-DSD conversion capability. Fixed a bug that leaks file handles when queueing large numbers of conversions. Minor cosmetic improvements. 1.0 Mar 3, 2014.
My new amp has an integrated DAC that can play DSD64 and 128. I have never used DSD files before. I know nothing about streaming. I have downloaded some files on my mac.
How do I make it work? I connect the mac via USB to the DAC, I assume, then use the DAC as sound card.
What software should I use to play the DSD files? (first question was easy) Second question: What is the easiest was to create a home network with a NAS to stream to the renderer that is also integrated in my amplifier? Thanks in advance and apologies for my immense digital ignorance Edited August 9, 2016 by o2so. I dont know your amp, but accessed the Hegel website. There is a lot of info on there that explains what you wish to know.
This looks like a fantastic amp, you have all the normal stuff of an integrated, but have a built in dac, so can take various inputs. Also has network compatibility. As it is a renderer it can access files somewhere on your network. To play DSD files your DAC must support it, or your software can convert from DSD to PCM, I do the latter just because I have an old Dac. You have several options.
Put Audirvana on your mac, connect that to the amp via usb set the software to play via your dac, Works great. (I am using jriver on Windows and can unfortunately not give an opinion on its abilities on Mac.). Another alternative is to connect it to a NAS (with LAN) and with Audirvana play the music files from the NAS.

What could further be possible with the right software and NAS is to play files from the NAS directly to the Hegel using a phone or computer. I would start with option 1, Audirvana is not expensive and works great. There may be free versions of software, but I am not up to date with those. A cheaper option than a NAS is just using the Mac or more hard drives connected to it, but in all setups please take backups and move offsite.
Enjoy, I would not mind having that amp. Edited August 13, 2016 by Jventer.
